Born and Bred Texan by Jinx Schwartz Book Nine in the Magnolia Bluff Series

The Short Story: A little bit mystery; A little bit romance, a whole lotta fun!

After the death of her husband, Blue Bonet Austin returns to Magnolia Bluff, the family seat and site of holiday and family get-togethers. Blue spent a year in Magnolia Bluff as a teenager, attending the high school her senior year and made a few close friends, but left for college in Paris, France. Now, she’s inherited her grandmother’s lakefront property, which comes with many happy memories. She’s financially well off and without children so she throws herself into renovating the old house. An abandoned dog adopts her and becomes a faithful friend. Her handyman is a wizard and there is nothing he can’t do. Everything is looking good until it isn’t. A dead body and a field of bones throw a ringer in her plans as the local cops and the FBI descend on Blue’s tranquil home. With the help of her high school friend and lawyer, Gloria, Blue contends with law enforcement, a nosy local reporter, a murderer and a potential suitor.

I really enjoyed this well-written book. The author captures the laid back feel of the Texas Hill Country. The characters are vivid, and have enough quirks to make it a fun engaging read. The pace is fast and aided by the author's dry sense of humor and quick wit. The story has a little bit of everything: mystery, friendship, nostalgia and romance. Born and Bred Texan is part of the Magnolia Bluff Series, eighteen books set in Magnolia Bluffs by different authors.

I highly recommend this fun book to readers who enjoy a bit of mystery, romance and stories about strong women.

I rate this book: 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐stars!

  3. This is the first entry by Jinx Schwartz in the #magnoliabluffcrimechronicles, and it is a resounding success. Here, the best selling author of the Hetta Coffey series turns her unique voice to that lovely and murderous community in Texas hill country. The story and the characters will quickly draw you in. Highly recommended.

  4. I've read other books by Ms. Schwartz, in her Hetta Coffey series, and always enjoyed them. This one is a bit different, and a complex story, and highly enjoyable. Blue Bonet moves to Magnolia Bluff to take possession of an old estate left to her by her grandmother. Of course it needed lots of care and repair - to be expected. But when a dead body brings in the local law, and then the FBI, things heat up and the reader is swept up in the mystery. An excellent addition to the Magnolia Bluff Crime Chronicles and I have no problem recommending it highly.
