Hotties, Hurricanes and a little
bit of History.
Thank you to Lonestar Literary
and author KJ Waters for a complimentary copy of Shattering Time. I was initially
interested in KJ Water’s Shattering Time as it has a great cover and I love time
travel stories. I did not read the first in the series but was provided a
summary of the plot. Despite this, I was a bit confused by the plot and would
recommend that readers start with book one.
Ronnie has recently moved to
Florida to be with her best friend Steph and has gotten a job with the same
company. Ronnie’s genius but abusive boyfriend Jeffrey also lives in the area. He
has created a battery-operated, portable time travel machine and is
experimenting on Ronnie, without her knowledge. We learn in book one, Ronnie’s brain, not body,
was transferred to a host woman in the past. Ronnie’s return was facilitated by a traumatic event, which Ronnie experienced before waking up in
her own body and time. When she explains what happened to her friend Steph, she
believes her and blames Jeffrey who is a manipulative bully.
Jeffrey has an evil genius sexy
lab friend who can control the strength and direction of hurricanes and soon a
second hurricane is barreling down on them. Meanwhile, Ronnie starts her new
job in sales. Her boss is hot, hot, hot and she feels an instant connection
with him. Steph’s troublesome younger brother Ian arrives from Scotland, with a
naked lady tattoo and a penchant for hitting on any female in sight.
Despite the fact that Jeffrey is a jealous, nasty piece of work, Ronnie loves to shag him. Which she does, in great detail.
During the second hurricane, evil Jeffrey once again tosses Ronnie back in
time. To say more would spoil the story, but I will say, you will not believe
the cliff-hanger ending!
I found the premise of the book
intriguing and the method of time travel unusual and inventive. Ronnie does not
spend much time in the past in this book which was a disappointment as that’s
what I was looking forward to. However, the historical details are well done. It
is clear that the author is dropping clues as to how Jeffrey developed his
machine and there are links to men in the past that have bearing on her current
life. As I said, the book ends on a cliff-hanger.
I would hesitate to call this a
romance as clearly there is no love between Jeffrey and Ronnie. There is a
copious amount of sex. The characters' dialogue is also peppered with sexual innuendos and discussions about the sexiness
and body physique of other characters is rife.
If you enjoy saucy time travel
you will find this book right up your alley.
